I learned recently that the early stories of famed detective Sherlock Holmes (of Scotland Yard, I believe) written by Arthur Conan Doyle (that’s “Sir” to you) were published as serials, with chapters released in ongoing issues of magazines.
Supposedly, he received a payment of $50 for each installment. It was reported that this amount paid his rent.
