So now Apple is selling computers, I-phones – whatever – with “AI”. Supposedly it can do all sorts of things for you, including, apparently, thinking. I believe it, especially if you have no imagination and don’t mind borrowing ideas others came up with or settling for low-common-denominator trains of thought.
I get the “A,” but I’m a little confused about the “I,” since I never understood intelligence as a computer-program. I guess I would be fine if it simply stood for “Information” streaming across your screen, but is that intelligence? I can train a cockatoo to mimic Einstein repeating the theory of relativity. For that matter, I could repeat it with an equal measure of ignorance.
So, maybe that’s it, AI is artificial ignorance. It’s certainly a real conceit on the part of its creators. So, “RC?” How about AU: Artificial Understanding. Or let’s make it more colloquial: RTOTW. Robots Taking Over the World.
Okay, I’ll lighten up now. Know any robot-jokes?
